This photo shows the area before Quarrier Street was extended through the city.  The Brown Estate was the largest private residential property in the city at the time.  It was hoped to become a city park with the land left over from the Quarrier Street construction, but of course, that never happened.  That property now includes the Transit Mall.  Laidley Street did not go though at the time, and was called Alderson Street from the Blvd to the Brown Estate.
